Based next to Deakin University in Burwood, Emmaus St Leo’s is a true grassroots sporting and social club with more than 300 active members and supporters.
We have a proud history in local suburban football and has been a part of the local area for more than 40 years. A proud amateur club where people play for the love of the game, we compete in the Victorian Amateur Football Association and work hard to maintain a safe, responsible and family friendly environment where local people can come together and enjoy being involved in sport.
We originated in 1971 as the Wattle Park Football Club. With the nearby St Leo’s College providing plenty of recruits, the club was renamed in 1978 to St Leos Wattle Park United Football Club. Joining the VAFA in 1992, the Club has grown in size and strength and following the closure of St Leo’s College in 1994, we became affiliated with Emmaus College. In 2004, the club was officially renamed Emmaus St Leos Old Collegians Football Club.
We have also enjoyed considerable success on the field, with Senior Premierships in 1992, 1995, 2002, Reserves Premierships in 1995 and Under 19 Premierships in 2000 and 2005.
In 2018, the Animals completed a historic year both on and off the field. On it, we fielded our first ever women’s side who competed in a newly created division and came together as fantastic group representing what it means to be an Animal. They would win their first ever competitive match against eventual premiers Westbourne Grammarians, and would also win their final home game of the year with a stirring come from behind win against Yarra Grammarians. The introduction of the Women’s side also saw our club grow off the field as they provided a breath of fresh air to the club and not only added, but complimented the exemplary culture at the Animals.
Off the field we were finally able to open the newly completed clubrooms. The state of the art modern facilities provide our club with much larger and luxurious changing facilities, as well as a multi purpose club room which can be used for official or social functions, allowing the club to host a multitude of events.
As we embark on our 2019 season, we again have our sights set firmly on achieving further success and growing our Club as a great place to be involved in not just local football, but also the local community.
Run by an energetic Committee led by President Alex Maunder, and freshly appointed and dedicated coaching and support staff, we have massive plans for the upcoming season – and we invite anyone to be a part of them.
